All-on-4 vs. Traditional Dentures Understanding the Differences
Traditional Dentures...
Are Completely Removable
Traditional dentures are held in place by suction, and with dental adhesive if needed. These dentures are less secure than All-on-X options. They can still offer improved functionality and a lovely smile — just with a little less peace of mind.
Are More Price-Conscious
For patients on a tighter budget, traditional dentures are more price-conscious. Our Kailua-Kona dental office understands how stressful implant costs can be, which is why we accept financing for all dentistry treatments.
Only Address Appearance and Bite
If you need an option to improve the aesthetics and functionality of your smile, traditional dentures can suffice. However, they will not be able to improve your bone health, which can lead to bone loss and visible sinking in your features over time.
All-on-4 and All-on-X Dentures...
Offer Improved Security
A common stress for dentures patients is the issue of security. Traditional dentures may shift position, but All-on-4 dentures will remain in the same place our dentist secures them to, so that you never have to worry about losing your smile.
Look More Natural
For the most natural-looking dental results, patients prefer All-on-4. It's completely discreet, and we use high-quality materials like zirconia to ensure that your dentures resemble regular enamel.
Function Like Real Teeth
If you want the closest thing to a natural smile, All-on-4 is the way to go. The implants root your restoration to your jaw, allowing you to chew, talk, and smile just like you used to.
What Differentiates All-on-4 From Other Dental Implant-Supported Dentures?
All-on-4 Requires Fewer Implants
With All-on-4, one of the biggest benefits is all in the name. It requires just four dental implants to secure a full upper or lower denture — a smaller amount than is needed for typical implant-supported dentures. And, despite using fewer implants, your All-on-4 dentures from Dr. Oka will be just as secure as other implant-supported options.
All-on-4 Is Less Intensive
Nervous about care? You may prefer All-on-4. Since it only needs four implants per arch, the treatment will be less intensive than other kinds of dental implant-supported dentures, even potentially allowing you to avoid supplemental procedures like bone grafting. This means less time in the dentist's chair for surgery, as well as a slightly easier recovery timeline.
All-on-4 Is Easier to Qualify For
Often, patients with tooth loss will also have bone recession. This can be a challenge for implant providers, because dental implants need to fuse with your jaw bone. With All-on-4, the smaller amount of implants means that you need less bone material, allowing more patients to qualify for treatment.
Protect Your Smile and Your Health With All-on-4 Dental Implants
Though traditional dentures can help with issues of insecurity, functionality, and aesthetics, each of these problems can be resolved even better with All-on-4 dental implants.
Not to mention, with All-on-4, you'll experience another advantage that traditional dentures just can't provide: improved oral health. That's because dental implants stimulate bone tissue, which often is lost when patients lose their natural teeth, experience decay, or live with dental trauma.

Are All-on-4 Dentures Stable? Yes — And It's Thanks to Osseointegration
Traditional dentures are tricky to keep in place. All-on-4 dental implants solve that problem entirely, using a process called osseointegration.
Osseointegration occurs when a dental implant fuses with your jaw and gums. In fact, the implant will become so stable that it will even functionally replace your tooth roots.
This process takes about three to six months to finish, giving you a lifetime of security and peace of mind. Once it's complete, our Kailua-Kona dentist will attach your abutments and custom dentures for a picture-perfect new smile.
Not a Candidate for All-on-4? You May Be Eligible for All-on-X
Due to factors like the amount of jawbone tissue you have, you may not be a good candidate for All-on-4 dental implants. Luckily, there is another option from the same team: All-on-X. All-on-X dental implants can also anchor a full arch restoration.
Instead of using four implants, though, they can use anywhere from six to eight. Plus, with more implants to stimulate your bone tissue, they may be able to improve your oral health more than All-on-4 implants.
Dr. Oka is happy to explain your options, as well as the benefits of each, during your consultation at his welcoming Kailua-Kona office.
Financing Available
Typically, dental insurance does not cover implants — despite the tangible benefits to your health and happiness. To give you more options, we accept financing from providers like CareCredit® and Springstone.
